Maternal

Maternal is a performative exploration of the transformations to which the body and psyche of women who become mothers are subjected. Pregnancy, childbirth, breastfeeding are fundamental stages of motherhood, which involve radical transformations, risks and significant challenges for the female psyche and body. Motherhood is considered a desirable stage in women's lives, which makes the more difficult issues many women face during motherhood remain a taboo in society, with a potential negative impact on their self-image or emotional and psychological well-being. Maternal focuses on the conflict between the idealization of the mother's condition, on the one hand, and the pressures, anxieties, concrete difficulties (emotional and economic) mothers face, on the other.
